RE-ELECT Edmond Wright for Secretary Treasurer

In 1982, Edmond Isaac Wright was elected as Secretary Treasurer for the Nisga'a Tribal Council - he served in this capacity for 18 consecutive years from 1982 - 2000. He continues to hold the Secretary Treasurer position under the Nisga'a Lisims Government where he was successfully elelcted for two 4-year terms of office under the new Nisga'a Government. This has gone unprecedented within the Nisga'a Nation where he has servied the Nisga'a Nation for a total of 26 years as Secretary Treasurer.

 

Edmond is also a:

  • Founding member of the Northern Native Fishing Corporation
  • Founding member of the Tribal Resources Investment Corporation (TriCorp)
  • Founding member of the Gitlakdamix Band Council Corporations
  • Former member of the Advisory Committees of the First Citizens Fund, Special ARDA, and 16/37 Community Futures.
  • Former Co-Chair of the Pacific Planning Symposium Steering Committee. The Committee was established in the 1980's to develop the devolution process of Department of Indian Affairs programs and services to BC Indian Bands.
  • Former Registrar of the Anglican Diocese of Caledonia Executive Committee.
  • Board Member of Northern Native Braodcasting (Terrace, BC) - CFNR FM Radio
  • Executive Member of the Northwest Tribal Treaty Nations.

Community Volunteer Work:

  • Member of the New Aiyansh YMCA
  • Active participant in New Aiyansh fund raising and service organizations.
  • Former player and coach of the various New Aiyansh sports teams.
  • Former Peoples' Warden of St. Peter's Anglican Church in New Aiyansh.

Awards:

  • Recipient of an Honourary Diploma in the spring of 2000 from Northwest Community College in recognition of community participation in the development of the college.
  • Recipient of an Appreciation Award in 2001 from New Aiyansh Village Government in recognition of 28 years of service to the village government, and for continued support in community building.
  • Recipient of the Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of Canada - Xerox Canada Ltd. 2006 Excellence in Aboriginal Leadership Award - National Category for exceptional committment to Aboriginal finance and management in Canada.
  • Recipient of the 2006 British Columbia Community Achievement Award in recognition of community services over the past 35 years.
