RE-ELECT Edmond Wright for Secretary Treasurer

Edmond was born in Gitlakdamix. He is a member of the Laxgibuu (wolf) tribe, Gitwilnaak'il from the House of Duuk. His Nisga'a name is Sim'oogit K'amluugidis.

 

He attended Edmonton Residential School from 1959-1965.

 

He returned to the Nass Valley in the fall of 1967 and continues to reside in New Aiyansh.

 

Edmond is married to Millicent and they have three adult children, five grandchildren and one great grandson.

 

From 1965-1969 he worked various jobs that include being a construction labourer, heavy equipment operator at a pulp mill, commercial fishery worker, logger and riverman on a log drive operation.

 

In 1970 Edmond accepted the job as Band Manager for Gitlakdamix Band Council and worked in this capacity for 28 years. He left his employment with Gitlakdamix Band Council in December 1998.

 

He was elected Trustee of the Nisga'a Tribal Council in mid 1970's and later elected to the position of Secretary - Treasurer. He held these positions continuously from the mid 1970's to October 2000.

 

Edmond was a member of the Nisga'a Nation negotiating team that concluded the Nisga'a Final Agreement that came into effect on May 11, 2000.

 

He was re-elected as Secretary-Treasurer of Nisga'a Lisims Government for a four year term in November 2000 and re-elected for an additional four year term in November 2004.

 

Currently, Edmond is an Officer of Nisga'a Lisms Government and is the Chairperson of the Nisga'a Finance Committee and Nisga'a Capital Finance Commission. He is also the Nisga'a Lisims Government representative of the Tripartite Finance Committee formed with Canada and British Columbia.

 

His position as Secretary-Treasurer also affords him ex-officio status at all other Nisga'a Lisims Government Committees.
